June 1, 1926 - October 14, 2020
Margaret Mary Goodacre (Dunn) was born on June 1, 1926 in Brandon Manitoba to Bernadette and John Dunn. Her father was a telegrapher with the CNR with whom the family relocated to Kamloops and finally Smithers.
Margaret attended and graduated from St. Anne's Academy in Kamloops. Her admiration for the Sisters of St. Anne lead her to apply to St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Victoria BC from where she graduated in April 1948.
Upon graduation she began her nursing career at Sacred Heart Hospital (Bulkley Valley District Hospital) in Smithers.
Margaret married James (Jim) Goodacre on August 17, 1949 and together they raised five children.
Margaret's career as a nurse remained a passion for her. She practiced as a Head Nurse on Maternity and Surgical Services until her retirement in 1987. It was not uncommon for her to be reminded by a former patient about her participation in the birth of their children or a special care she had rendered.
Margaret and Jim travelled extensively to far off locales, often visiting with friends they had made over the years. This travel continued on a smaller scale as they advanced in years sustaining and maintaining close ties with family and friends.
Margaret loved the sun and water, spending many enjoyable summers at the family cottage on Lake Kathlyn. She remained active, golfing up until her 90th birthday and attending aqua size three times a week at the pool. She was a regular attendee at community senior events and remained active in the Catholic Church Community.
Sadly, Margaret was predeceased by her husband Jim in 2010, her three sons John, Donald and Bill and great grandson Steffan.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Irvine (Dave), Patti Marko (Rick), grandson Murray Goodacre (Penny), granddaughter Sarah Puentes (Alex), Grandson(s) Chris Marko (Michelle) and Paul Marko. Great-grandchildren Gabe Lacroix, Daniel Puentes, Joshua Marko, Rose Puentes, Keira Marko, Owen Puentes and Chase Marko.
She passed away peacefully at Bulkley Valley District Hospital on Oct. 14, 2020 with her daughters by her side. She will remain in our hearts forever.
A Funeral Mass for Margaret took place in St. Joseph's Church, in Smithers, on Tuesday, October 20th. Condolences for the Goodacre family may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com
