Jul 21, 1940 - Mar 10, 2018
After years of health issues following cancer at age 50, Margaret went to meet her Lord and Saviour on Saturday morning, March 10, 2018.

Margaret grew up on a farm in rural Missouri, married young and had three daughters by age 19. She lost both of her parents within a year of her youngest daughter's birth. Margaret met her husband of 45 years, Ken Johnston, while working in Phoenix, Arizona and they married on September 18, 1971 and then moved to Smithers where they raised her girls and lived until their passing. Margaret worked for many years at the BV Credit Union, Northern Drugs, and then worked alongside Ken at his accounting office until she became too ill to do so.

Margaret was extremely loyal and loved her family deeply. Although often weary and tired of illness, and missing Ken who passed away on March 7, 2017, her sense of humour kept those close to her laughing and enjoying special times in recent days. Margaret and Ken had a love for country music, dancing and travelling and spent many happy hours doing those things until she became too ill to travel. They both loved the many cats who shared their home over the years and who they considered part of the family.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Ken, her parents, Herbert George & Lillah Novice Haring, her sister Mary (Gene) Underwood and brother Jim (Doris) Alger.

Margaret is survived by her children, Brenda Johnston, Candy McKinley, Tammy (Todd) Larson, her sister, Barbara Knowles, her brother, Robert (Deborah) Haring, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Margaret loved and appreciated her extended family, in-laws, and family friends and often longed for better health to have more time to spend with those she loved.

We would like to express our thanks to the doctors and staff at Coho Clinic, Tinka and the Pharmasave team, home nursing and home support, the ambulance crew and other attendees, and our church and family friends for their care for our mother and our family.

A private family gathering will be held in her honour.

Memorials can be made to the Sick Kids Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the SPCA.

Condolences may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com.
