Lauren Gail Maillot (nee Hunter)

May 29, 1949 to April 30, 2009

With great sadness we announce Lauren’s passing after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 59. Predeceased by daughter Deanna, parents Glen and Betty Hunter and brother Ron Hunter. Lauren is survived by husband Roger, daughters Dawn Maillot, and Darlene Masch, and son Matt Maillot (Sheri), grandchildren Christina and Danny Barendregt, Samantha (Jed) Gainer, Tamara and Lauren Dika, Joey, Tommy, Sarah, Theo and Jacob Maillot, great-grandchildren Kiera and Mattias Barendregt, Hayden Pattie, and Eden Gainer.

Born in Vancouver, B.C., Lauren moved to Quesnel with her family. Then in 1961 the family moved on to Smithers, where Lauren met and married Roger Maillot on August 7, 1964. They spent many happy years on Tatlow Road in Smithers raising their children. Lauren was a loving grandma and great-grandma, spending much time entertaining and doting on the little people in her life. Lauren’s other passions included gardening, reading, knitting, and craftwork. In 1998, Lauren realized a lifelong dream of travelling to Africa, where she went on safari in Zimbabwe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Bulkley Valley Hospice Center.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the family home (130 Stanga Road, off TatlowRoad) on Saturday, May 23, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Please come and join us in sharing the joy, laughter and many memories that Lauren filled our lives with.
