We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Koert Beertema. Born in Holland January 7, 1931 Koert immigrated to Canada in 1966 with his wife Rita and their two sons. Koert worked as a chicken farmer and for the Merchant Marines before immigrating to Canada. Once in Hazelton he quickly purchased Beertema's Clothing and Appliance store and Tri town theater. He and his wife worked many long hours, and the businesses became a pillar of the Hazelton community. Koert always had a smile and enjoyed his home of Hazelton. In his later years he enjoyed spending winters with his Mexico family and summers in Hazelton and Babine Lake.
Koert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rita. Son, Peter(Hailey and Luke), son Henny & Kia(Scott and Max). No funeral at Koert's request.
