Kenneth Howard Wright

June 24, 1916 to Nov. 19, 2008

Ken died in the Bulkley Valley District Hospital in the presence of his family on the evening of November 19. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan, in 2001. He is survived by his son John (Carol) of Smithers, daughter Jenny (Ian) of Vancouver, grandsons Robin of Surrey, BC, Niall in Taiwan, and extended family and friends in Yorkshire, England.

Ken was born near York, England, and lived there for most of his life. He and Joan moved to Smithers in 1986 to be near their family. Ken served in the RAF during WWII, and had a life long love of planes and flying. He spent his working life supplying bakers with fine almond products. In his free time his gregarious nature found an outlet in amateur dramatics, golfing, helping others and playing darts at the local pub or lately, Smithers’ Legion.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Bulkley Lodge, the ADC, Smithers’ home support service, and Dr. Strauss who have provided excellent care for Ken during his latter years. They also wish to thank Dr. Smialowski and the nursing staff at the hospital for their conscientious and sympathetic care of Ken during his last hours.

A memorial service to celebrate Ken’s life was held at St. James Anglican Church on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 25, followed by a reception at the Legion. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to the Bulkley Lodge or to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 63.
