John Smith
1921-2007
John Smith passed away January 11, 2007 in Coquihalla Gillis House at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his step-daughters; Bonita (Larry Hintz) Norman, Shirley (Brian) Milne, step-grandchildren; Walter Osashoff, Raymond (Luke) Milne, Cathy (Rob) Niminiken, Jill (Kurt Furstenworth) Luka and Jessica Luka as well as many more step – great grandchildren and close friends. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years Bernice Bellows Smith.
He was born Hendrik Smit in Weinwerd, Holland on April 6, 1921. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and became a Canadian citizen in 1955; it was in 1961 that he finally changed his name to John Smith. John worked the majority of his life for the Ministry of Transportation and Highways and he retired in 1985. He always enjoyed gardening, bicycling and regular exercise. John will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
There will be no formal service. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Justin Clark of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Kamloops, BC 554-2324.
