June 27, 1950 - February 26, 2021
John passed away suddenly in a tragic accident on 26 Feb 2021. He is survived by his wife Joan of 45 years, sons Michael (Katie) and Brian (Jenelle). Papa to Jordyn, Teryn, Bradyn, Wyatt, Riley, Gavyn and Presley. Also brothers Dominic (Josie) and Mike and many nephews and nieces.
Born in Castelmezzano, Italy in 1950, moving to Canada and eventually ending up in Vancouver where he grew up and developed his love of engines and acquiring his heavy duty mechanic certificate.
He then moved north and ended up in Houston, B.C. in 1973. He worked for many years fixing machinery but in 1996 the family opened a car wash, rental and auto repair shop until 2012. Then in 2019 decided it was time to move to Oliver so he could grow his own grapes.
John had a passion for building hot rods, restoring older vehicles and organizing the Houston Drag Races. He loved helping his granddaughter and long time friend Monty to race dragsters.
He also loved collecting auto memorabilia from the 50's through the 80's, and making and drinking grape wine especially with family and friends. John was very handy and could fix almost anything. When he wasn't busy at home, he enjoyed being at the cabin on Babine Lake.
John took great pleasure in riding motorcycles anywhere and everywhere. He had many great adventures riding through the USA with his friends. In October of 2012 he started his experience of a lifetime and drove his 1982 Honda 450 from Houston, B.C. to the southern tip of South America and back, returning in April 2013.
In 2014 John was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. It was a 2 year long battle but he beat it. Not one to stay idle he returned to the work force.
He will be greatly missed but he will forever be in our minds and hearts. In lieu of flowers Donations may be made to the bccancerfoundation.com/John_Lombardi
There will be a celebration of life at a later date when large gatherings can be safely held.
