John Douglas Blackett passed away peacefully the evening of June 22, 2021 at the age of 87; his long battle with dementia finally at an end. He was with his two daughters Michelle Blackett and Alison Blackett by his side.
John was born in Winnipeg Manitoba to parents Douglas & Anna Blackett. He married Shirley Peterson and had two daughters Karen Clarke, and Sheila Gibb (Vancouver)
He later married Diane Chretien and had one son Kenny Blackett (deceased) two daughters, Michelle (Terrace) and Alison (Smithers)
In 1992 He married Chrystal Hackle and longtime companion but was since divorced in 2013.
He is lovingly remembered by all his 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his youngest sister Mary McWhirter (Ontario) and many nieces and nephews.
John loved living and farming in the Bulkley Valley. He worked as an Insurance Adjuster for many years in Terrace and then joined the team with partner Ed Whalley at North Country Insurance. He later bought the business and built up the company till he sold it in 2001.
John enjoyed working with the public and was always loved by his staff. Through the years he served on many committees including being president of the BV Credit Union Committee and the BV Music Society.
John was always up for a laugh and had a passion for travel & good food. He was known to always be a great host, which often included Scotch and warm laughter.
He loved his children and always made time for them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
