John A. Ross died April 30th at Foothills hospital in Calgary. He was born October 18th 1917 in Yorkshire, England. John worked as an ironstone miner, a furnaceman, and after moving to Smithers in 1972 held various positions at PIR. He served in England with the Green Howards, and the Home Guard. John was a hiker, a caver, and loved gardening. In his sixties he took up snowmobiling with the Smithers Snowmobile Club and spent many happy days on the Dome. He is survived by his wife Lena, daughters Pat (Ian), Marjorie (Roman), son Alex, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A private memorial will be held May 12th in Kimberley BC where John was living. In lieu of flowers friends may make a donation to a charity of their choice.
