Gillis, Johanna (nee Oudhuis)

Johanna “Rose” Gillis passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011 in Smithers BC, with family at her side. Johanna was born March 19, 1926 in northwest Holland and moved to Canada with her son Herbert in 1954 to be reunited with her husband Frank, whom she met during the war. Johanna and Frank raised their family in Vancouver’s West End where they spent many hours on the weekends walking through the trails of Stanley Park.

Johanna and Frank lived on a lovely treed lot in Langley, BC before moving to Telkwa, BC in 1998 to a gorgeous location amidst the gardens, trees and wildlife that they loved.

Johanna, Rose, Jopie, Mom, Nana, will be dearly missed. Her love, kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour touched many people.

Johanna is survived by her brothers Piet, Jan, and Wiets; children Herbert (Dianne), Floyd (Akemi), Ellen (Murray) and Leo (Mary); son-in-law Brian Grubb; grandchildren David Gillis (Angela), Nadine Koreman (Rob), Gavin Grubb (Helena), Nigel Gillis and Nicole Gillis; great-grandchildren Tianna, Taryn, Ryan, Jordan and Alyssa, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Johanna was predeceased by her husband Frank, her sister Anne, her brother Hank, and her parents Peter and Cornelia (nee Van Eekelen).
