In loving memory ~
Mom was born on July 14, 1936, in Hilversum, NL. She was the 3rd child of 8. She met Dad (Bert) at her sister and Dad's cousin's wedding in 1957. They were married Dec 11, 1957 and moved to Canada shortly after. (Dad had been living in Smithers already).
Mom was extremely homesick, not knowing a single word of English, being alone for many long hours of the day while Dad worked in the bush. In the summer of '63 they went back to Holland for a few months with 2-year-old Wilma and baby Martin. Mom desperately wanted to stay but Dad convinced her to try it for a few more years. They never did move back!
Mom was a faithful believer and a daughter of the Lord. A long lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church. She was involved in the Ladies Aid, and a committed member of the Tuesday morning uno cial weightwatchers club.
Mom was a great and loving partner for Dad, keeping house and raising children. She also supported him in his house building business, often helping to paint and clean. In later years she volunteered at New to You by unraveling blankets and sweaters to put into balls of wool and yarn.
She loved her card games...Kings and Threes and Oh Heck. She later became an avid poker player...Mexican Poker that is!
Over the last few years moms' health start deteriorating. Last year she was in palliative care, but the Lord gave her more time on this earth. We are very thankful for the care that Wilma has provided for her this last year.
Mom was widowed in 2000 and missed Dad daily! Mom was the mother of 5 children Wilma (+Martin Deruyter), Martin (Rose), Edward (Debbie), Bert (Anna), and Marian (Kevin Debree). An Oma of 14, and a great Oma of 11.
Our Lord and Savior called Mom home on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. She has been granted full healing and peace. Thanks be to God!
