Jean Marie Westman (nee Cody) passed away peacefully in the B.V. District Hospital in Smithers on Dec. 22, 2004 at the age of 84 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Jim Westman.
Mrs. Westman is survived by her children, Pat Westman (Mary Lou) of Smithers, Phil Westman (Debra) of Belize and Mary Jean Cosman (Larry) of Smithers. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Christie (Oliver), Cody, Heather and Michelle.
Jean was born in Edmonton, Alberta on Feb. 14, 1920, the youngest of seven children. She moved to Vancouver in 1941 where she met and married Jim Westman in 1947. Jean moved to the Bulkley Valley in 1995 to be nearer to her children and grandchildren. Jean embraced Smithers as her new home, making many friendships amongst the residents of Alpine Village where she lived.
Those who knew her, both family and friends, will tell you she was a spirited person who loved life. She was always ready to meet new people and would sit and talk with you all day long if you let her. Jean also loved her independence, living on her own right up to the end. Memorial donations may be made in Jean’s name to the Smithers Public Library.
