Jan Smith

July 11, 1957 – February 14, 2015

Jan passed away peacefully with family members by her side in Smithers. She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Archie Earley of Usk. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 35 years, Barry Smith; her daughters Kelly (Adam) Sache of Agassiz and Erin Smith of Prince George; granddaughters Sadie and Amelia Sache; sisters Gail (Kojo) Asante of New Westminster and Kathy (Gus) Anagnostou of Terrace.

Jan spent her early years in Coquitlam, moving to the Terrace area in her teens where she attended college. In 1980, she relocated to Smithers as a newlywed where she would spend the next 35 years raising a family and working as an active volunteer in the community. She will be remembered as a kind and giving person who loved life in all forms and was especially known for her passion for flowers.

Jan’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who provided such wonderful care and support over many years. We also very much appreciate the warmth and support we have received from our many friends and extended family.

In keeping with her wishes, there will not be a formal service or memorial. A small family gathering is planned to take place in Terrace this summer.

I Am With You Still

I give you this one thought to keep

I am with you still – do not weep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you waken in the morning’s hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not think of me as gone –

I am with you still – in each new dawn.
