Jim grew up on the family farm with his parents Laurie & Isabelle who were known to all as Ma & Pa, 2 brothers Terry & Bob and one sister Barbara. Jim was the second child of this pioneer family that settled in the valley in 1921.
Jim was very mechanically inclined, he was also an accomplished horseman, and teamster working with the horses on the farm. He started working for the CNR when he was about 16 and received an electrician apprenticeship from them. To complete his apprenticeship he moved to Prince George where he met and married Hazel Hoff. Together they had 4 children - Jill, Dan, Roy & Dayle.
In 1969 Jim returned home to Evelyn with his family and went to work as an electrician in the mill in Telkwa, which is where he met his future business partner Steve Peterson. Jim & Steve formed a partnership and started Evelyn Mills Ltd. in 1972. They shipped many boxcars of lumber to the States. In 1973 Jim also bought a truck and would haul gravel in the summer and logs in the winter. From 1982 to his retirement in 1997 Jim was the electrician at the Smithers Airport.
Jim was very involved with the Northern Saddle Club, Fall Fair Board, Smithers Rodeo Club and Evelyn 4H Club.
In 1985 Jim returned to the family farm where his heart always was. Jim remained on the farm working alongside his family until his move to the Bulkley Lodge in 2015.
He was a very much loved, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his children Jill (Bob), Dan, Roy (Laura), Dayle (Tim); grandchildren James, Sara, Christina, Stephanie, Ben, Lawson, Randy, Heather; great grandchildren Kayla, Jaxon, Naomi, Lariah, Jude; sister Barbara and brother Bob.
He was predeceased by his parents Laurie and Isabelle; brother Terry; and his great grandson Caleb.
A Celebration of Life was held on Dec.17th at the Evelyn Hall.
