Ivo H.J. Vanderhorst died in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 89 years on Friday, October 30, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife Jacoba (nee Barendreght), his parents Dirk Vanderhorst and Wilhelmina Cornelia Vanderhorst (nee van Beek).
Ivo was born in 1920 in Roermond, Limburg, Netherlands. He grew up in Zwolle, Overijssel, Netherlands and as a young adult studied at both the Art Academy of Antwerp and the Art Academy of Amsterdam. He married Jacoba Barendreght in 1946 and immigrated to British Columbia, Canada in September 1951.
Ivo and Jacoba settled in the Telkwa River Valley, ten miles from Smithers, B.C., where they raised a family of six children. Both Ivo and his wife Jacoba were converts to Roman Catholicism and remained loyal to their faith, each other and their children for their entire lives.
Ivo is now able to resume the deep friendship that he shared with his spiritual mentor, the late Father Godfrey Eichelsbacher O.M.I and is able to joyfully employ his artistic talent with the Heavenly court for the Greater Glory of God.
