Irwin Barker

June 13, 1952 to June 21, 2010

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Irwin Barker.

After a three year battle with cancer, our Dad went peacefully in his sleep on the morning of June 21, 2010 at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.

Irwin had a lengthy career in Canadian show business, starting with stand-up comedy that lead to many appearances on CBC (both TV and Radio) and numerous comedy festivals. Irwin finished up his career by writing first for “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” and then “The Rick Mercer Report.”

Irwin’s three children moved to Smithers in 1994, and he often came to visit. He loved playing scrabble, eating Hawkins Cheesies and drinking Starbucks Coffee. His first grandchild was born in 1999 and was followed by six others in the next nine years.

He is lovingly remembered by his children Michelle (Calvin) Elliott, Jeremy (Tynisha) Barker and Vanessa (Aaron) van der Meulen as well as his seven grandchildren, Delaney, Avery, Camryn, Gabriel, Zechariah, Michaiah and Jadon.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Assembly on Thursday, July 1 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
