Ida Rosa Duff

Duff, Ida Rosa (nee Hug) of Oliver passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20 at Sunnybank Centre in Oliver at the age of 89 years.

Ida will be fondly remembered by her loving family including son William (Margaret) Duff of Kelowna, daughter Elizabeth (Brian) Des Mazes of Kamloops, daughter Roberta (Dale) Dodge of Oliver, son Joseph (Allison) Duff of Victoria; brother Ernest of Smithers, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by husband William Duff in 1983, son Francis Ernest Duff in 1952, mother Rosa Hug and father Benedict Hug; brother Ben Hug and sister Rosa Chapelone.

Ida was born on Feb. 28, 1918, in Tusnang, Turgau, Switzerland, and immigrated to Smithers in 1937 and was married in 1944. She then relocated to Oliver in 1994.

Ida was active in the Roman Catholic Church over the years and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 60 years. She also was the manager of the “New to You” thrift shop for 10 years.

Ida enjoyed hiking, baking, bingo as well as spending time with her family.

A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Smithers, B.C. Interment and committal followed at Smithers Cemetery. A reception was then held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church hall.
