April 28, 1934 - March 18, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Palmer. Harold left us acefully on the evening of March 18th, 2020 with his loved ones at his side.
Harold was a much-loved partner, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. We will forever miss his smile and laughter, his stories and jokes and his comforting words of wisdom.
Harold is survived by his loving family; partner Trudy Schatz; brother Vern Palmer and Sister Ethel MacRae. Patricia Duncan (Tom), Cindy Palmer, Laurie Palmer (Vern), Peggy Toner (Kieran), Sara Belanger (Andre), Alan Hesketh.
Grandchildren; Ryan Peters, Carrie Peters, Michelle Duncan, Kristie Duncan, Nadine Cunningham, Brittany Palmer, Shay Toner, Taya Toner, Cody Askew, Jean-Luc Belanger, Maxim Belanger, Liam Belanger.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved son William John Palmer (John) as well as his brothers Bob Palmer, Bill Palmer and his sister Frances Palmer.
Harold was born in Styal, Alberta on April 28th, 1934. He was the youngest of 6 children. In 1952, he followed his brothers to Smithers to begin working for CN. From those years, he went on to enjoy many other types of work in various fields including 25 years at school district 54 as the maintenance foreman. He was very active in the Smithers community both as town councilor for 5 years and as President of the Smithers Golf and Country Club for 12 years.
Harold was a strong and spiritual man with a quick wit and warm smile for all. His passion for life and insatiable quest for knowledge brought to light his gift of being able to pull a quote from any piece of literature at any given time. Whether it be Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Service or the Holy Bible....he always had an appropriate quote for any occasion.
Harold spent the last 37 years of his life living happily in Smithers with his partner Trudy. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, daily walks, visiting the bookstore and the sushi bar, visits with family and spending time with his grandkids.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Morkel and the nursing staff of BVDH for their kindness and compassion and for their excellent care. We would also like to express our gratitude to the community for all the calls, messages and kind words. Thank you.
Although Harold has left a huge void in our lives, we are comforted in knowing he had a full and happy life and was looking forward to seeing what's next.
"Whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt, the universe is unfolding as it should"
At Harold's request, a Memorial Service will not be held.
