October 18, 1932 - March 11, 2022
In loving memory ~
Glyn Wayne Wookey was born on Oct. 18, 1932, in Guernsey, Sask. His family moved to the Kispiox Valley in 1938. Glyn grew up running the family farm. He later sold the farm and built a new house just down the road on the Kispiox River. He worked in various jobs. Naming a few, he worked for the Forestry manning a look-out, the ice arena and then at the curling club. He measured the Kispiox River for the Fisheries and sold Watkins for many years. He also loved to pick mushrooms to sell.
Glyn was a very active in the Kispiox Valley Community Association, the Rodeo Club and later the Music Festival. He was well known for his pies, ice cream and corn on the cob. Back in the day he loved square dancing and belonged to the Totem Twirlers. His New Years dinners were also a favorite by many.
Glyn retired and moved to Roche View Lodge in New Hazelton. He lived at the Lodge for 15 years. There he made most of the Monday night suppers. At the age of 89 he was still in his own apartment and still cooking, thanks to the awesome Home Support workers that checked on him.
Sadly, Glyn passed away March 11, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents John and Elsie; his siblings Gertrude, Tom, Clayton, Ron, Marcelene, Drew and Dal (twins), Colby and Francis (twins) and Garry who was Glyn's twin.
Glyn was loved by everyone who met him and will be sadly missed by so many.
There will be a Memorial Tea at the Kispiox Valley Community Hall on April 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
Pie and ice cream are on the menu. Please let Brenda know if you can bring a pie to share.
