Morris — Gladys Dorothy (Mawdsley) 1909 — 2003, formerly of 137 Bushby Street, Victoria, died at age 94 Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers, British Columbia.

Gladys was born on December 19, 1909 in Ainsworth, B.C. to Maurice and Margaret Jane (McLellan) Mawdsley. She moved with her family including two brothers and two sisters to the Cariboo Region of British Columbia, then to Alberta and finally to Trail, where she completed her schooling.

Gladys obtained her teaching certificate at the Normal school in Victoria, and returned to Trail where she taught school.

She met Joseph Morris in Trail. They were married July 3, 1937, and raised two sons David and Ron. In 1969, she moved to Victoria where she remained until August of 2003, when she moved to Smithers with Ron and his wife Judy.

Throughout her life Gladys remained an educator, motivator and loving supporter to her family, relatives and friends. She loved playing cards; she was a life master in duplicate bridge, playing golf and all kinds of word games, including crossword puzzles. She was always there for her family, relatives and friends, and will be dearly missed.

Gladys is survived by her two sons: David (Erika) Morris, Bonita Springs, Florida and Ron (Judy) Morris, Smithers; four Grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, on November 17, 1963, and her sisters Margaret (Jim) York, Francis (Ron) Magee and her brothers Stanley (Olive) Mawdsley and Maurice (Jean) Mawdsley.

A memorial tea will be held in Victoria on January 25, 2004 at the Oak Bay Lodge, noon to 2 pm. Interment will be in the Trail Rossland Cemetery in the spring. Memorials are suggested to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
