Gertrude Therese (Terry) Parminter

December 5, 2004

Mrs. Gertrude Therese (Terry) Parminter passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 5, 2004, with her loving family at her side at the age of 63 years.

Terry was born in Saint Juluien, France on June 3, 1941, as her Swiss parents (John and Trudy Jungen) were stuck on the French side of the border due to WWII. The Jungen family immigrated to Montney, B.C. in 1946 and established a farm.

Terry graduated from high school in Fort St. John in 1959 and then graduated from the VGH nursing school in 1962. After working for a year in Vancouver, Terry, her friend Bev and two others traveled Europe for a year and a half. Terry married Don Parminter in Quesnel, B.C. in 1965. Terry and Don lived in all the various corners of B.C. including Powell River, Kimberley, Stewart, Golden, Chetwynd, and Terrace before settling in the Bulkley Valley in 1989.

Terry will be lovingly remembered by her husband Don, daughter Lori (Greg) McCormick of Powell River and grandson Jake, son Mark (Andrea) of Smithers, and nephew Brian Jungen who joined their family in 1977. She will also be lovingly remembered by her two brothers, John (Clare) of Victoria and Kilian (Shirley) of Summerland and numerous nieces and nephews.

Terry enjoyed nine years working at the Bulkley Valley Regional Hospital in the operating room. She leaves behind a host of friends both from working relationships and friendships around the province. Her greatest treasures were her family and friends. Terry was a joyful and active person who loved to travel and spend time in the outdoors. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Although she dealt with cancer for over six years, Terry maintained a cheerful, positive attitude and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Terry was a member of he local Breast Cancer Support Group and was very appreciative of their support and the care provided by the hospital oncology team. Her family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Terry’s name be made to the Bulkley Valley Community Cancer Care Team at the Bulkley Valley Credit Union.

A celebration of Terry’s life was held on Monday, Dec. 13 at noon in the Smithers Alliance Church with Pastor Henry Clarke officiating and the pianist was Mrs. Shelley Becker.

Cremation arrangements were entrusted to R.A. Schrader Funeral home, Smithers, B.C. 250-847-2441
