George Veenstra

December 16, 1954 - September 20, 2021

George Veenstra, age 66, went to be with his Lord & Saviour, Jesus Christ on the evening of Monday, September 20 at his home in Smithers, B.C. after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Smithers to Stoffer & Grace Veenstra, George was the youngest of eight children and was adored as the baby brother of the family. George had the natural ability to make people laugh with his witty humor and pleasant character. Friends and family alike were drawn to him because of his engaging likable personality. In 1974, George met the love of his life, Tina Brandsma, to whom he was married for 44 years and always considered the Brandsma family his own. For 30 years, George worked his farm, Glenwood Dairy, while still enjoying life outside the farm. In 2010, George took a step back from the farm and enjoyed many different activities including golf, biking, hiking and travelling. George enjoyed lending a hand to others and helping out at the Smithers golf course. George enjoyed praise & worship music and using his gifts for the Smithers CRC church. George led a full and blessed life that touched many people. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. George is survived by his beloved wife, Tina and his children Jason (Andrea), Brad (Laurie), Kevin (Lindsey), Stan and Daniel (Stephennie) along with his 11 grandchildren (Rylan, Avery, Carter, Kamryn, Blake, Parker, Gavin, Morgan, Ben, Grace, Sam) and another grandchild due in December. He is pre-deceased by his oldest brother John and survived by his six siblings (Fettje, Hennie, Linda, Willie, Ted, Jenny) and 19 in-law brothers & sisters. George's family would like to thank Dr. Jodi Preto and the nurses at the Smithers hospital that provided excellent care and comfort during his final weeks.

Song of comfort and hope for George

We don't know when this storm is going to break But underneath all things the everlasting arms

We don't know how much more our hearts can take But underneath all things the everlasting arms

~ Everlasting Arms by Brian Doerksen
