April 25, 1947 - October 28, 2022
In Loving Memory ~
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frederic Bernard Jackson on October 28, 2022 in Smithers, BC, at the age of 75.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Albert Bernard Jackson and Agnes Maud (Smith) Jackson.
He leaves behind his caring wife Violeta, his stepchildren Laura and Jairo, his brother William (Susan) Jackson, his sister Lise-Ann Jackson, his nephew Matthew Jackson, and nieces Kimberly Cooke, Genine Marconato, Fiona Randall, and Suzette Gould.
Fred was born in Victoria on April 25, 1947. He moved to Smithers in 1971 and began his teaching career at Chandler Park. After 33 years of teaching, he retired in 2004.
He began his volleyball coaching career in 1972 and remained very committed to school and club volleyball for many years. He was well-respected throughout the province for the success he achieved with his teams from Smithers. He also coached the BC Provincial Team for several years.
His commitment resulted in many players advancing to post-secondary volleyball and later becoming coaches themselves. Consequently, Fred's influence and passion for volleyball continued to be shared through this ripple effect.
In later years, Fred enjoyed travelling, especially to Cuba to spend time with Violeta's family. He also valued time biking, golfing, and visiting with his friends.
After a year of suffering with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), Fred was ready to leave this world. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but they find some comfort knowing that he is at peace. Fred did not want a funeral or celebration of life, but he did want his family and friends to know how much he appreciated the joy they brought into his life.
