Evelyn Deloris Glass

October 26, 1912 to May 14, 2009

Evelyn was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. to Charles and Ida Thomas in the upstairs living quarters of the grocery store her father built, which is the present day Pa’s Food Market. The family left Prince Rupert in 1921, moving first to Usk, then to Terrace where they settled on a small farm and at that time her father planted many fruit and maple trees, of which some are still growing in the vicinity of Thomas Street today. In 1934, Evelyn married Vernon Glass her husband of 56 years. The Glass family arrived in Smithers in 1942 where they purchased the family home in which Evelyn lived until her last days. She lived a long and rich life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon, in 1990 and her son-in-law, Frederick Coles, in 2003.

She is survived by sons Vernon (Brigitte), Dale (Justina) and daughters Merrilyn Coles and Barbara Glass, 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as many other relatives.

She had a caring nature, so touched many people’s lives which resulted in a very large extended family. Family was always the most important part of her life and she was loved dearly by all of them.

Evelyn spent countless hours volunteering for various organizations such as the Hospital Auxiliary and the Rebecca Lodge and was a dedicated member of the United Church. She gave generously to many causes.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Pioneer Cemetery in Terrace, B.C.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Smithers United Church on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2 p.m.
