February 18, 1950 - May 25, 2018
On Friday, May 25, 2018. Mr. Erwin Finlay MacDermid of Osoyoos passed away at the South Okanagan General Hospital surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer at the age of 68 years young.

He was predeceased by his father, John MacDermid and mother, Betty MacDermid.

Erwin will be fondly remembered by his loving family including Beverly MacDermid (beautiful wife since 1969); son Clinton MacDermid (Sasha); daughter Tara Leroux (Bradley); sister Denise MacDermid (Darlene); brother Stuart MacDermid (Laurisa); brother Derek; Brother David; grandchildren Kasey, Kendra and Oakley; nephews Kyle, James, Travis and niece Robyn. 

Turnip as he was fondly known as for many years attended, Selkirk College (around 1968) to become a Forest Technologist. He spent the majority of his working years with the Ministry of Forests in various communities across BC. He celebrated many achievements in the forest industry. Most of those years and achievements were with forest fire suppression in Smithers BC. He finally retired in 2005 as Superintendent of Fire Prevention and Detection in Victoria, BC.

Over the years he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Erwin enjoyed swimming, wind surfing, diving, skiing, travelling, riding motor cycles, sailing, fishing and hunting. Shortly after moving to Osoyoos, Erwin and Bev joined the Desert Spirit Dragon Boat Team.  All of these activities brought him a lot of joy.  

Donations gratefully accepted for the Oliver Palliative Care Unit, Osoyoos Home Support and or Desert Valley Hospice Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Smithers Royal Canadian Legion, 3840 - 1st Avenue, Smithers, BC.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Desert Valley Hospice Society as well as Nunes-Pottinger Funeral Service.
