Ernest Stuart Bree

May 22, 1918?–?June 04, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ernest Stuart Bree on June 04 2010 at the Bulkley Valley Hospital at the age of 92 years. He passed away peacefully with his long time partner, Yvonne by his side.

Ernest was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jack, ex-wife Noreen and stepdaughter Marie. He is survived by his only son, Ernest and Debbie and five granddaughters, Trish and Eddy, Kerry and Flint, Carol and Dave, Candi and Shane and Amanda, five great grandchildren and Yvonne’s children, Annette and John, Ed and Janet, Roger and Lorie and their families.

Ernest was born May 22 1918 in Edmonton, Ab. He moved with his family in 1919 to pioneer in the Telkwa area. He attended school in a country school on Woodmere Rd and worked the farm with his dad and brother. He joined the Army in the 1940’s and lived many places in Canada while serving. Upon his return he was able to pursue his passions, sawmilling with his brother Jack, ranching, logging, mechanics and cat skinning.

Ernest began his life with Yvonne in 1976. During that time they were able to enjoy travelling across Canada, sightseeing and visiting extended family. Highlights of their travels include visiting PEl, Montreal and various trips throughout BC and Alberta. In addition there was a very enjoyable and relaxed road trip with Ernest Jr to the Yukon and Alaska.

Semi-retiring at the age of 67, Ernest continued to help out on his son’s ranch. During the summer of2009, at the age of91 he was still actively involved with haying and always talked of helping again in 2010. But that was not meant to be. In January 2010 Ernest fell ill. He was in and out of hospital several times over the next five months. While at home during the latter part of his illness Yvonne became his caregiver with the help of his Granddaughter, Trish.

Ernest was a hard working, dedicated man and his family meant everything to him.

On May 22 2010 Ernest happily celebrated his 92nd birthday with his family and friends. Two days later he began to fail and was taken to the hospital, where he never recovered. At the request of Ernest, no funeral service was held, but a small family graveside service was held at the Telkwa Cemetery on June 14th, 2010, followed by a tea at son, Ernest’s home.

Those we love don’t go away.

They walk beside us everyday.

No longer in our life to share.

But in our hearts he is always there.
