June 30, 2020
The family of Edward Walton is sad to announce his sudden passing on June 30th of this year, at the age of 77.
Ed is predeceased by his father Richard, his mother Mary, brothers-in-law Jack Bovil, Ron Lister and Terry Storey. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Laverne Walton, his sisters Rita Bovil, Gerda Lister, Wally Storey, all from Smithers, and Rosemarie (Dennis) Logan from Porcupine Plains, SK. His sons Heath (Debbie) Walton, and Ryan (Raina) Walton also share this loss, as do their children Adrienne (Damian) Braun, Cole (Tamia) Walton, Kyle Walton, and Jessica and Zachary Walton. Ed was happy to be able to welcome two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Mikennzie to his family, but sadly was unable to meet a new grandson expected shortly.
Ed was born on the family farm in 1942. He studied courses in Forestry but at 21 took over the farm. The family farm was Ed's life. You would often see Ed in in his red Ranger taking care of his "girls" out in the field and checking on them frequently during calving season. There was always so much to do, and his heart was in everything he did. He was known for his quick wit and often showed this off in many conversations he had with friends and neighbours as they gathered for coffee around the kitchen table. He also loved a good game of poker which he played with his regular gang. They played the game as they lived - by their own rules!
He told us he loved us in so many ways, often by putting his cold hands down our warm neck as we sat at the kitchen table or a firm squeeze on the shoulder. Those were his favourite greetings. We love you Papa and always will. Your legacy will live on in the stories we tell our children and grandchildren. We will work hard to keep your spirit of hard work and love for the farm alive.
The family would like to thank Dr. Haskins and his team at Northern Roots Primary Care, the doctors and nurses at BVDH and the paramedics who provided such loving care and attention to both Ed and the family, as well as the kind gentleman who stopped to help.
Anyone wishing to make donations could do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to our local Red Cross. Ed always loved family gatherings so a Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm 3621 Billiter Road on Saturday July 18th from 1 to 4. Please bring your own lawn chair and umbrella in case of rain.
