In Loving Memory ~
With broken hearts we share the passing of our Dad, Ed Hinchliffe, on December 23rd.
Ed was born in Burns Lake in 1936 to parents Rev'd Arthur and Annie Hinchliffe, the third of five children. His family moved to Terrace and Dawson Creek before they arrived in Smithers in 1946 when he was ten.
He worked as a plumber before starting his own business, Ed's Excavating. He worked all over the valley and local area. He met and then married Barbara in 1958.
Ed took up farming in the early 70s, growing hay and raising cattle. He served the Smithers community first as a volunteer fireman for over 30 years and then on a surprising number of committees: BC Cattlemen, Farmers' Institute, St James Church, Fall Fair, BC Parks, Regional District and BV Quad Riders.
Starting as a young man Ed loved being in the mountains and the bush. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, hiking and quadding. This was a lifelong love which he passed on to his children Jim (Sandra), Beth (Don), Mike (Jill), grandchildren: Bailey & Claire, Jake & Kate, Edward & William and great grandchildren: Tommy & Evelyn, Chase & Jonathon.
He was well liked by many, young and old. He told great stories, had a quick sense of humour and loved his family. He will be missed dearly.
Special thanks to the doctors of the Coho Clinic and the caring BVDH 3rd floor nursing staff.
A memorial will be held on Saturday January 18th at 2pm at St James Anglican Church.
