Doris Betty (West) Boyle was born on November 23, 1933 in Southampton, England as the tenth of twelve children. She married in 1952, and with her young family, immigrated to the outskirts of Montreal, Canada, five years later.

In 1964, they moved to Smithers, B.C. where she raised her three children, making the holidays joyous, and everyday life, extra special. She retired from School District #54 after about 20 years of service as not just a custodian but “the Candy Lady,” handing out treats each Friday to a swarm of open hands.

Doris eventually moved to The Meadows assisted-living development for seniors where she enjoyed the pleasant, caring, “family” atmosphere. She passed away on June 14, 2015 with her children by her side after battling cancer, showing strength and grace to the end.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Dolores, Richard (Darlene) and Lorna (Paul); her grandchildren, Ian (Liz), Tami (Mike), Aaron, Kiel, Delaina, Tanya (Alex); 13 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; her sister, Hilda (Den); and many nieces, nephews and others whose lives she touched.

She was laid to rest in the Smithers cemetery, and a small gathering was held thereafter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Make-a-Wish-Foundation of Canada. Condolences may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com.
