Although Don lived his entire life in the eastern US and eastern Ontario, he made frequent trips to BC to visit his children and grandchildren in Smithers, Victoria, and Vancouver. He developed a wide circle of friends in Smithers who enjoyed his quirky sense of humour and adventurous spirit. He loved the mountains and he loved snow; on his last visit, at age 82, he still went downhill skiing at Hudson Bay Mountain and tobogganed in the Malkow Hills.
Don is survived by his wife Virginia, sister Mary (Craig) Smith, children Paul (Sandra), Anne, George (Darlene) and Todd (Imogen), grandchildren Tlell (Sean), Yeva (Dustin), Thoenn, Sarah, Isobel and Julian and great-grandson Soren.
A Bulkley Valley memorial for Don will be held Tuesday June 30 at Glenwood (Driftwood) Hall, starting at 4:00 pm. Sharing of stories and memories will be followed by country dancing and a barbecue dinner and campfire. All are welcome.
