On August 8th, 2022, beloved community member and hitchhiker Dave Stevens, passed away at age 74. Born William David Stevens, Dave died suddenly while riding a bike in a place he loved.
Dave was born May 27, 1948, to parents Jean Anne and William Leroy (Bill) in Charlotte County, NB and found his way to Northern BC as a tree-planter in the 1980's. Always working with technology and activism, Dave has since served the Northern Interior as tech repair person, festival volunteer fixture, local joke-teller and air quality activist.
Out east, Dave is survived by two sisters, Jennifer Stevens Ross and Judy Craig, and their daughters, Jessica Ross, Charmaine McAdoo and Natalie Ing. Dave also leaves behind in Smithers, step daughter Shelley Ferguson, grandkids Zack, Marissa, Colton, and also Teslin and his Telkwa High Road chosen family. Raised with many cousins in and around Blacks Harbour, NB, Dave is survived and remembered by many relatives happy to see him during his regular trips across Canada, back to the East Coast. Dave will be remembered for that twinkle in his eye, his iconic red hat and shorts-in-winter fashion, his radical modes of transportation, his good-bad jokes and his environmental leadership and activism.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 pm on September 10th, 2022, at Glenwood Hall located at 13804 Telkwa High Road outside of Smithers, BC. There will be an open mic followed by a potluck.
