January 28, 1936 - January 31, 2021
Born in The Hague, Holland on January 28, 1936 to his parents Richard Martin Barendregt and Janke Mostert. Chris passed over into God's embrace peacefully on January 31, 2021. He was the middle child in a large family of siblings: Henny, August, Cory, Pete, Dick, Jane, Casey, Hilda, Nick and Andrew.
Chris is survived by his partner Carol Wallace and children; Richard Barendregt (Tammy), Ramona Denboer (Robert), Vicky Wallace, and his grandchildren; Jolene McIntyre, Candace Barendregt, Brandon Barendregt, Daniel Barendregt, Rikki Denboer, Great Grandchildren Ayla Barendregt, and Zella Wilson.
As a young man Christiaan travelled around North America until he found himself in the Yukon, where he met his first wife Minnie Netro. They both attended a vocational school together and married in 1965.
Christiaan worked as a mill worker, truck driver and a welder, but relocated to Smithers when Richard and Ramona were quite young. He attended a school in Nelson, B.C. and became a Millwright, owned his own welding business and also owned the gas station in Telkwa, known as Midway, for some time. He was a millwright for many years for PIR Lumber Mill in Smithers until retirement.
He enjoyed spending most of his time outside on his 5 acres with his partner Carol and her daughter Vicky, whom he considered his daughter as well. He was always puttering and caring for a menagerie of animals, tending his hobby farm, and enjoying road trips together with Carol and Vicky, until he retired to their Condo in Smithers when he started slowing down. His last months were filled with love and care with his family.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation to the Red Cross is suggested. Condolences may be offered at www.schraderfuneralhome.com
