Catherine Shirley Marcotte

1944-2009

Cathy fought a brave and stubborn battle with complications from leg surgery. She passed away suddenly in Terrace, B.C. on Nov. 4, 2009.

Cathy spent some time away from Smithers when she was younger and then married Marcel in 1970 and settled down to raise a family as a life-long resident of Smithers. Cathy and Marcel liked the area and it allowed her to be close to her parents. She loved the outdoors and some of her happiest times were camping on Babine Lake with Harry and Vivian Charchuk (aka Mr. & Mrs. Fish); trolling around fishing for char and trout. She loved spending time with the grandkids and most recently the great grandkids. Cathy will be remembered for always being there for friends and family. Whether it was a shoulder to cry on, driving kids around, keeping the books organized for the family business or just phoning to talk, she was always willing to help where needed.

Cathy is survived by her husband Marcel, sons Don (Tracey) and Doug, daughter Nicole (Lance) Winterhalder, grandchildren Daniel, Sarah, Jessica, Kimberly, Owen-Patrick and great-grandchildren Kelli and Lucas as well as sister Laureen (Barry) Wilwand and many nieces and nephews. Cathy is predeceased by her parents Jean and Cyril Mehaffey. There was a private get together for family and close friends held on Nov. 8, 2009.

Cathie (Dec. 1955)

by Cyril Mehaffey

Now at your age life may be mostly fun,

But your toils have barely begun.

Life’s road may seem rocky and rough and long,

Forget your troubles and sing a song.

Be happy, contented, smile and be fair,

Then you’ll go through life like a millionaire.

Remember these words after we have parted,

I hope if you’re sad they’ll make you like hearted.
