After a valiant struggle with breast cancer, Carla passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 21, 2007.
She is survived by her loving, devoted husband, caregiver, friend and companion of 35 years, Garry Smith; her cherished and beautiful children, Steven (Linda and Hunter), Wendy (Richard and Justine). Carla was predeceased by her father Art in 2000. Left to cherish her are her mother Nancy; sisters, Linda, Debbie, Kathy and Sharon; brothers, Jim, Craig and Doug; and extended family.
Carla was born and raised in St. James. Later she moved to British Columbia where she married Garry and shared many happy years together. They both loved to fish, hunt and camp with their children. Carla loved to have her family and friends come out to visit. Everyone always had a wonderful time together. Carla especially loved being a grandma. She cherished her time that she had with Hunter and Justine. We shall all miss the wonderful times that we spent with Carla and Garry.
Special thanks to Donna, Elizabeth and Elfey. Also to patient caregivers at Smithers Hospital for their many acts of kindness during Carla’s illness. Special thanks to sister Linda, who spent the last month with Carla, sharing very special moments and memories together. Carla will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. We are grateful for her life and that she is now at rest. Rest in Peace Carla – Love Mom.
Cremation has taken place in Terrace. Private family service to take place in Winnipeg this spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare.
