SVAB - Brianne Raelene, daughter of Herman Svab and Norma Stumborg, died in a motor vehicle accident on December 27, 2006 at Deep Creek corner on Highway 16 between Smithers and Houston. She was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on April 23, 1984. In 1989, Brianne moved with her family to the Smithers area where she went to St. Joseph’s Elementary, public middle and high schools.
In 2003, she moved to Vernon where she worked and later completed her Grade 12 education with scholarships and a full grant to attend Thompson Rivers University’s Resident Care Attendant program in Kamloops. Brianne had a passion for caring for the elderly and lived to make those around her laugh.
She will be deeply missed by many family members and friends and is survived by her brother Brendan Svab of Kingston, Ont; mother Norma Stumborg of Nanaimo, BC; father Herman and stepmother Kathryne Svab, half-brother Dylan and stepbrother Jared of Smithers, BC; grandparents Helen Svab, Bernie and Elvira Stumborg all from Naicam, Sask.; great grandparent Theresa Svab; 19 aunts and uncles; 32 first cousins, and many more family and friends. Brianne was predeceased by: Grandpa Louis, Cousin Stephanie, and Uncle Colin.
The celebration of Brianne’s life was held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at St. Josephs’ Church at Smithers, B.C. She was buried at the Telkwa Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Schraeder’s Funeral Home. A memorial bursary fund has been established in Brianne’s honour and will go to a student that best exemplifies compassion and enjoyment of caregiving in the Thompson Rivers University Resident Care Attendant program.
