Blanche Marie Aurore Maillot/Sketchley (nee Masse) passed away peacefully at home, after a heroic battle with cancer, on Nov. 22, 2008. Born on March 26, 1922 in Summercove Saskatchewan she had a very happy and fulfilling childhood. Blanche attended school in La Fleche, Sask. and the Jesus Mary Catholic convent in Gravelbourg, Sask. In her later teen years she met Ernie Maillot and they were married in Ferland, Sask, 1942. After their fourth child was born, Blanche and Ernie moved to Walcott where Ernie operated a small sawmill and Blanche had a full time job raising the family with no electricity or running water. After a four year stay in Walcott the family moved to Smithers in 1953 where their next four children were born. In 1965, Ernie and Blanche purchased the pool room on Main Street which was then owned and operated by Roy & Marion Arnold. The pool room was then named “Blanche’s Lunches Ltd.” Sadly, in 1967, Ernie passed away and Blanche continued its operation for another year and then sold it.

In 1977, she married Percy Sketchley whom she lived with for the remainder of her life.

Blanche knew how to live life to the fullest and was blessed with a very special sense of humour which she maintained right to the end. She could often be heard being sassy, not only to her family, but also all the people she considered her close friends. Her family was very dear to her and she would often hold small family gatherings at her home when one of the children (no matter what age) would be celebrating a birthday. Her children always felt they could turn to their mom for any kind of advice they felt they might need. Blanche celebrated her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be remembered by them for her hugs, butter tarts, tatting, french filet, knitting, and carpet bowling. Her bubbly personality, honesty & sincerity and kind heartedness will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Blanche was pre-deceased by her husband Ernie in 1967, by her daughter Stella in 1948, by her son Maurice in 1955, by her son-in-law Charlie Nama Sr. in 1985, sisters Gabrielle Sincennes, Fernande Nicol, Yvonne Doran, Therese Maillot and brothers Charlie Masse, Gerald Masse, Victor Masse, Maurice Masse.

Blanche will be sadly missed by her son Roger (Lauren) Maillot, Smithers, B.C., Rita (Colin) Williams, Smithers, B.C., Mark (Sue) Maillot, Prince George, B.C., Mary Wick, Smithers, B.C., Gloria (Roy) Lansall, Fort St. John, B.C., Len (Mary Jo) Maillot, Smithers, B.C., brother-in-law Bernard Maillot, Calgary, AB, sister-in-law Doreen (Chris) Atkins, Houston, B.C., grandchildren Dawn Maillot, Darlene Masch, Matthew (Sherri) Maillot, Charles Nama, Ranjit (Doug) Kerr, Charlene Bradford, Andrew Maillot, Debbie Lansall, Naomi Maillot, Ed Neff, Erika Wick, Shelby Wick, Melissa (Adam) Todd, Malachi Maillot, Stacy Williams, Mark (Dianne) Williams, Breanna (Blake) Murray, step-children Byron (Clare) Sketchley, Debbie (Bob) Kline, Jim (Gail) Sketchley, as well as many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
