Tysselan, Mr. Bjarne Kristoffer, age 84 years, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002, at the Swift Current Centre.
The funeral service was held at 2 pm, Thursday, April 04, 2002, from the Chapel of Warren’s Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Lew Booth officiating. The interment service took place at Nordland Church Cemetery, Stewart Valley District, Saskatchewan.
The organist was Arlene Olso and the soloist was John Regier. An honour guard was formed by the members of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Legion Last Rites were observed. The active pallbearers were Myron Furseth, Bruce Furseth, Bob Rindahl, Lawrence Forde, Tom Grant, Myles Furseth.
He was predeceased by his mother in 1947; his father in 1954; brother Luther in 1984, and brother Olaf in 1985. He is survived by his brother Suerre (Elsie) Tysseland of Kula, Hawaii and a niece Caroline Stohl and family in the Untied States.
Bjarne was born in Swift Current, SK, February 11,1918. He attended school at Diamond Hills School and then worked and farming in the Stewart valley area until 1942.
He then went to Regina for Military training as was sent to Camp Borden, Ontario, where he spent the rest of his time in the army, until World War II was over. He spent three years and eight months in the army.
After being demobalised he went to Smithers in northern British Columbia, where he bought some land and a saw mill and got a logging claim. He ran the farm in the summer and the saw mill/ logging operation in the winter. He kept adding land, improving it by clearing and planting grass, to build a cattle operation.
His brother Luther and he took over the family farm in Saskatchewan which he ran in the summer and continued to spend the winter in Smithers, BC. In 1984 his health suffered with cancer and he also had a hip replacement, which did not turn out very well, so he more or less retired.
He travelled to Norway several times, also to Russia and parts of Europe and made a trip to South America. He had been a resident patient at the Swift Current Care Centre for several years.
