Betty Anne (Farr) ROWE

January 4, 2016

Betty Anne (Farr) Rowe

June 10, 1930 — January 4, 2016

Betty passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side, at the age of 85. She was born in Thurnscoe, in the County of York, England, and was trained as a nurse and midwife before emigrating to Canada in 1954. She met William (Bill) Robert Rowe in May 1957, and they were married on March 1, 1960 at the United Church in Aldergrove, BC, where they lived for the next four years. It was during that time that their three children were born, Wendy Anne, Susan Jane and John Edward.

Betty and Bill moved the family to Telkwa in 1974, at which time Betty returned to nursing at the Bulkley Valley District Hospital, and remained working there until 1984. They lived in the Smithers area until moving to Qualicum Beach in 1987, only to return to Smithers seven years later. Betty was active with the Women’s Institute and enjoyed quilting, crocheting and knitting.

She is survived by her children Wendy Anne (James) Wilson, Susan Jane Rowe, John Edward (Heather) Rowe; five grandchildren and five (soon to be six) great-grandchildren.

An informal Memorial Service was held on January 12th at the Smithers Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital, PO Box 370, Smithers, BC V0J 2N0 or Community Cancer Care Team, Box 3776, Smithers BC, V0J 2N0.
