December 16, 1933 - November 14, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that family announces the passing of Bernadette Ann (Hayes) Ferguson on November 14, 2022.
Bernadette and her identical twin, Theresa, were born December 16, 1933 in Ballingarry, Co. Limerick, Ireland.
Bernie had many fond memories of growing up in Ireland with her thirteen siblings and wonderful neighbours.
At the age of 19, Bernie and her twin travelled to London where they studied nursing. Following this training, she returned home to Ireland for additional courses in tuberculosis and midwifery.
In 1960, Bernie & Theresa boarded an ocean liner, travelling to Canada to join up with an older sister. It was in Edmonton, Alberta that Bernadette met and married the love of her life, Jim Ferguson. Together they had six children: Sean Ferguson (Debbie), Kathleen Jones (Bob), Jim Ferguson (Sandra), Colleen Kern (Steve), Tim Ferguson and Sheila Ferguson (Earl Wingert).
Bernie had many interests in life. She was an avid reader and excellent knitter. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and watching her favourite hockey team, the Vancouver Canucks. Bernie loved to travel and was proud of her Irish heritage.
Most important to her were people and relationships. She was dedicated to her husband, children, family, and friends. Bernie had 13 grandchildren: Ashley, Ben, Brittany, Michael, Colin, Megan, Melissa, Noah, Regan, Josephine, Jessica, Thomas and Zachary and 6 great-grandchildren.
Over the years, Bernadette showed her kindness and appreciation to many by cooking or knitting for them. She had much gratitude for even the simplest pleasures in life, like a good cup of tea.
Bernadette is predeceased by her husband, Jim Ferguson and her thirteen siblings.
Her family is planning a celebration of life in Alberta this summer.
