November 24, 2002

In loving memory of

Art “Hank” Huisman

July 12, 1931 - Nov. 24, 2002

He who dwells in the shelter

of the Most High,

who abides in the shadow

of the Almighty,

Psalm 91:1

Hank Huisman was born July 12, 1931, in Wons, Friesland. Hank was the 11th child of 12. He immigrated to Canada in 1951.

Hank met Ida in Houston at a young peoples rally. They were married on May 9, 1958. Together they have six children.

He worked at the Telkwa Mill for the first two years and as a mechanic from 1953 to 1983. Hank also worked at the Repap Mill from 1983 to 1991 until he discovered he had cancer in May of 1991.

His first lung operation was on Sept. 25, 1991. In his battle with cancer over the last eleven and a half years, he had seen numerous operations and treatments. Through all this, Hank was a courageous fighter and never willing to give up. Hank always looked up to God for strength and guidance. Like he always said, “I know where I am going, the Lord looks after me, I don’t need to worry.”

Throughout the years he enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Cancer did not stop Hank from enjoying the pleasures of life; he took up needlepoint, woodwork, and enjoyed walking.

His grandchildren were a big part of his life; however due to his illness it restricted him from becoming more involved with them.

Hank was very appreciative for all the care he received through his eleven and a half years with cancer, especially the doctors and nurses in Vancouver and Smithers.

Hank was a great husband, father and grandfather. We thank the Lord and celebrate his 71 years of life.

We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, food, cards, flowers which we have received. Also a big thank-you to all the doctors, nurses for their care throughout the years. A special thanks to Dr. Schultz for his outstanding care.

Hank is lovingly remembered by his dear wife and best friend, Ida. Father and Grandfather of Marty and Ida Hamhuis (Smithers, B.C.) Dan, Erin and Cindy; Ron and Joanne Huisman (Prince George, B.C.) Kayla, Jordan and Kyle; Tom and Annie de Vries (Smithers, B.C.) Ryan, Shannon, Daryl and Tyson ; Pete Huisman (Smithers, B.C) Darcy and Derek; Albert and Nancy Vandevelde (Terrace, B.C.) Breanne, Denise, Jason and Eric; Jerry Huisman and friend, Elizabeth Williams (Smithers, B.C.) “Dutch”. Remembered also by many relatives and friends.
