Art Groot was born in Smithers, the third of six children. His life was characterized by three deep passions. He loved God and was committed to the promises of His Word in both the good and difficult times of his life. Art loved God’s creation and spent many hours hiking, biking and fishing and was also an avid gardener. He enjoyed driving his logging truck for twenty-eight years in the Bulkley Valley and never grew tired of the beautiful scenery.
Art was also deeply committed to his wife, Gloria, and two sons, Tim and Dan and always found time to do things with and for them. Art loved life and lived and worked hard. He blessed the lives of so many people and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service was held on July 5, 2003 at the Smithers Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Jim Poelman officiating.
