Anna passed away peacefully on December 28, 2017 in the Bulkley Valley District Hospital at the age of 98.

She was born in ter Aar, Netherlands, being the eldest of 10 children. She met Jan Willem Hamhuis and they were married in August of 1946. After being blessed with 4 children in Holland, they immigrated to Canada in 1951 to Houston, B.C where their sponsor lived. The family moved to Smithers in 1952, and in 1954 and 1957 two more children were added to the family.

Anna often assisted her husband Jan Willem (John) in his workshop with sanding, staining And varnishing of the projects he made. Her gardens were always meticulous and she prided herself with many varieties of flowers, sometimes winning prizes at the Fall Fair.

Anna was a volunteer at the New to You Thrift store for about 20 years and would bring home items that needed repair and return them back ready to sell. She loved to needlepoint, sew, crochet and puzzle, and when at the Meadows she continued puzzling with a newfound friend.

Anna was predeceased by her husband John (2010), sons Herman (2006) and John Jr. (2005).

She is survived by d.i.l Gail (Herman), son Hans (Marg), d.i.l. Irma (John), daughter Marg (Dave), daughter Deeny (Mike), son Marty (Ida), 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

A special thank-you to all the staff at the Meadows where Anna resided for the past year, and to her doctor Jodi Preto.

Anna was laid to rest next to husband John and son Herman at the Smithers Cemetery and will be deeply missed.
