Ann Koopmans

1929-2015

Ann Koopmans was born on Nov. 18, 1929 in Langweer, Friesland, the Netherlands to Thijs and Hiltje Jaarsma.

In December of 1948 the Jaarsmas, including nine of their 13 children emigrated to Canada, traveling by Aquitania across the Atlantic and by train across Canada to Ladner, B.C. While in Ladner, Ann or Anneke, as she was called at that time, worked as a maid on the Murray Davie’s farm.

It was in Ladner that Ann met George Koopmans, a young man who caught her attention and her heart. Ann and George were married in Telkwa, B.C., on Nov. 26, 1952. They enjoyed 63 years together, facing the opportunities and challenges that life brought them with a firm and steadfast trust in God, and a good sense of humour.

During the last years of Ann’s life she was afflicted with dementia. This was difficult, and progressively more so. Eventually the level of care required, necessitated the help of the local Home and Community Care program, which was very much appreciated.

The Lord took Ann Koopmans to her heavenly home on Dec. 6, 2015. She is survived by her husband, George, and their children: Ted (Joanne), Rick (Julia), Hilda, Ken (Linda), Dave (Linda), Paul (Michelle), Patti (Steve); their 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four of her siblings and is survived by three brothers and five sisters.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 ESV (Ann’s favourite Psalm)

A Memorial Service was held on Dec.11 in the Faith Reformed Church in Telkwa. Ann was laid to rest in the Telkwa Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com
