Albert Eldon Sunderland

May 11, 1925 to June 18, 2011

Eldon was born and raised in Vancouver. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserves in 1943 then transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy September 1945. He spent several years in Scotland and England where he met and married his war bride Joyce.

During his 25 years of service he endured, with much patience, many cross country transfers. Traveling with his wife and five children from Nova Scotia to B.C. in a station wagon, he always remained calm and sane.

Eldon and Joyce managed several motels including the Sandman Inn in Smithers. He was a gifted man who enjoyed doing crafts, especially his hedgehogs. He was also an avid cook. We loved his homemade “Mac N Cheese.”

Eldon is survived by his adored wife Joyce. They were married for 62 years.

Also surviving are daughters Dawn Todd, Deidre (Lynn) Murray, Kim (Frank) DiSensi, Collette (Ralf) Wolnowski, son Glenn (Karen) Sunderland, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Hubert and sister Marion.

Family service will be held at a later date.

We would like to thank the staff at Bulkley Lodge, especially the ladies of Blueberry that took such loving care of him.
