In loving memory ~
Alan Lewis passed away in his home in Smithers, B.C., on December 3rd, 2022, surrounded by family. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Susan Lewis and children Cindy Lewis (Cas), Shelley Hoffmann (Dave), Monty Lewis (Lida), and Nicole Lewis. He also has many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will dearly miss him! Alan was born in Vancouver and was the oldest of his 4 siblings, Craig, Linda, Rob and Howie. Alan was predeceased by his parents Ena & Roy Lewis.
Alan attended Semiahmoo High School where he met his future wife Susan. They were married in 1964 in White Rock, B.C. where they began their family. Alan was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, rock hounding, bottle digging, backpacking and camping.
Later in the 70's they moved to Cherryville, B.C. where they had a small hobby farm. In 1980 they moved to Smithers after Alan had come up for a hunting trip and decided this was a good place to live. Although they loved Smithers, Alan always was looking for another adventure,
and so he and Susan moved back and forth to Kelowna, and Haida Gwaii (we joked they should buy into the U-Haul company). His parents and some siblings lived in Kelowna, so he wanted to be near them... and Haida Gwaii had fishing and beachcombing...some of their
kids were in the valley, so where to live was a hard decision.
He was a floor layer/contractor by trade and worked in many of the homes and businesses in the valley. He was a hard worker and always did a great job. He built 2 beautiful log homes in Smithers and renovated others. He had the best humour. Always joking around.
It was always a good time when family & friends visited, and we enjoyed the stories and the laughs. There were so many stories, and we wished he had written them down into a book. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Thank you to the Ambulance Service,
the doctors and nurses at BV District Hospital, and the Homecare workers, and Dr. Dykstra for their care and support.
The Celebration of Life will be planned for next summer.
