Agnes was born in Hoorn, North Holland, the fourth child of eight children, born to Anton and Catharina Konst. She followed the family with her younger sister Tina to Canada in 1953, where she started working for the Sisters of St. Anne in the B.V. District Hospital. In June of 1954 her fiance, John Derksen arrived from Holland and they were married on July 21st, in Smithers BC. They moved into a small cabin on King Street.

Although they were never blessed with children of their own, they opened their home, hearts and energy to four foster sisters; Laura, Thelma, Mary and Georgina. For over twenty years they loved them as their own.

Agnes also worked for many years with the handicapped children at the Happy Valley School, building a wonderful bond with these children. In the mid-seventies, Agnes went into business on her own, doing sewing and alterations for many of the local clothing stores.

After John passed away in 2012, Agnes renewed her creative interest, by quilting table cloths and runners. In her last five years, she became a mentor and storyteller to all who came to visit. Due to her failing health, Agnes purchased a scooter and regained her independence. It was always her wish, never to be in a nursing home, of any kind and to live out the last of her days in her own home. CONGRATULATIONS AGNES, you did it!!!!

Agnes was predeceased by her husband John and her siblings; Andries, John, Alice, Sophia, and Tony. She is survived by her sister Tina and brother Jos, thirty-two nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

A Memorial Mass was held on October 16th at St. Joseph's Church in Smithers.
