April 13, 1929 - May 30, 2019
Alice was born on April 13, 1929 in Leeuwarden, Holland (Friesland). She married Jan Jacobsen on May 10, 1962 and in 1975 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Smithers, where Jan worked for Verbeek Sawmills until he passed away in 1988.
Alice became one of the first Homemakers (Care Aide) in Smithers until she retired at the age of 65 years. She was very interested in animals and their welfare. She bred, raised and showed Shelties with her friend Karen Steward for many years. She also travelled extensively with her friend Margaret Vandenberg until Margaret passed away. Alice enjoyed doing calligraphy, photography and created her own cards. At the age of 65 she bought an organ and taught herself to play. She always took great interest in anything to do with nature.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses and health care workers who lovingly tended to her. In her last days she was also cared for by the staff and nurses at the Bulkley Lodge, who were all very good to her.
The family also wishes to thank Dr. Blouw, Dr. Barnard and Dr. Page of the Coho Clinic, for their care, attention and the love they showed Alice.
Alice passed away on May 30, 2019.
A Funeral Service for Alice will be held on June 14th at 1 pm in the Smithers Christian Reformed Church. Flowers gratefully declined, but anyone wishing to do so, could make a donation in Alice's name to the BV Health Care and Hospice Foundation, PO Box 551, Smithers, BC V0J 2N0.
