UPDATE: Man released from police custody with no charges so far

Police have released a man who was arrested after an early morning incident lead to a woman's death in Telkwa.

UPDATE:

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk told The Interior News that the individual who was arrested the morning of Nov. 11 in connection with a woman's death in Telkwa has been released with no charges so far.

Police have a 24 hour window after an initial arrest to submit documents to Crown prosecutors to recommend charges. Moskaluk did not provide any further details of the investigation except that the man has so far not been charged.

He also said that the victim's body has been flown to Vancouver for a scheduled autopsy on Monday.

At some point in the early morning hours of Nov. 11, Smithers RCMP, along with the B.C. Ambulance Service and local fire service members attended a scene upon receiving a report of an injured woman in Telkwa.

The police did not officially say where in Telkwa the incident occurred, but The Interior News observed a portion of Willow Street closed off by RCMP investigators.

The woman was found with life threatening injuries and transported to the Bulkley Valley District Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later that day.

"Police are treating the death as being criminal in nature," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, who is the senior media relations officer for the RCMP's Southeast and North District.

An adult male found at the scene was arrested.

RCMP have confirmed that the two people knew each other.

It is unclear to the News what time the woman was reported to authorities, but a person on The Interior News' Facebook page posted that she saw someone being taken away in an ambulance at around 2 a.m. that morning.
