UPDATE: Kitwanga youth killed in Kamloops

Summer Star Elizabeth Krista-Lee FOWLER, 16, of the Kitwanga First Nation Band, was killed Kamloops earlier this week.

The Kamloops RCMP Major Crime Unit have released additional details regarding the murder of Summer Star Elizabeth Krista-Lee Fowler, formerly of Kitwanga.

Fowler, 16, was killed in Kamloops last week after having travelled there from Terrace by bus.  It is unknown how long Fowler had been in Kamloops, but Kamloops Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said she did have a return ticket for Terrace.

A forensic autopsy conducted last Thursday confirmed Fowler's death was a homicide, however, the cause of death has not been released.

Further investigation revealed Fowler did have a troubled past and battled substance abuse.

Toxicity reports from samples taken during the autopsy are not expected for at least another week, Learned said.

Prior to travelling to Kamloops, Fowler had been living in and around Terrace with family and friends, Learned said, but she had recently been the subject of a missing person's report.

RCMP, however, are not releasing details of the missing person's report to maintain the integrity of their investigation.

Fowler was killed sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning of last week in the Guerin Creek area of Kamloops.

The forensic autopsy was performed last Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or CrimeStoppers.
