The BC Wildfire Service now has two helicopters, one initial attack crew and 10 firefighters from a unit crew assigned to a blaze south and to the west of Houston.
“This morning airtankers blanketed the fire with retardant to slow the spread. The fire is in difficult terrain and the initial attack crew is working to gain better access to the site,” said wildfire service official Kaitlyn Bailey.
The fire was first reported the evening of July. It was last estimated at .5 hectares in size.
The fire cause is suspected to be lightning.
At the same time, a series of fires have been reported in the area around Oootsa Lake and Tweedsmuir park. Some are listed as under control and others as out of control and all are around one hectare in size.
